Dr. Braunstein is professor of medicine at Cedars-Sinai and professor emeritus at David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He previously served as vice president for clinical innovation at Cedars-Sinai Health System, as well as vice-chair of the Department of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Braunstein is a past Chair of the Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Braunstein also served as Chair of the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Subspecialty Boards for the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Braunstein’s research focuses on male and female reproductive endocrinology and thyroid disease. Over the course of his career, he has published more than 385 peer-reviewed manuscripts, monographs, chapters, and reviews dealing with human chorionic gonadotropin, pregnancy, testicular and ovarian physiology and pathophysiology, gynecomastia, pituitary disorders, thyroid disease, pharmaceuticals, health care delivery, pharmacogenomics, laboratory diagnostic testing, and circulating tumor DNA.
Dr. Braunstein received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 1968, followed by an internship and residency at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr Braunstein completed further training in endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health and Harbor General Hospital-UCLA School of Medicine.
