Pharmaceutical POOL Damian BRAGA Sanofi Pasteur Consolidates ­Commercial Operations Leadership Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of global healthcare company Sanofi, has tapped U.S. President Damian Braga as senior VP, commercial operations, vaccines. Mr. Braga serves as global head of commercial operations, consolidating all of Sanofi Pasteur’s commercial operations. A 23-year veteran with Sanofi Pasteur, Mr. Braga was previously president of Sanofi Pasteur U.S. and VP of Sanofi Pasteur Americas. He received an MBA in finance from Seton Hall University. U.S.-based Astellas Pharma Global Development (APGD) has named Stephen Eck, M.D., Ph.D., VP, head of medical oncology. Dr. Eck joins APGD from Lilly, where he was most recently VP of translational medicine and pharmacogenomics. He received an M.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Harvard University. Astellas Pharma Europe (APEL), based in the United Kingdom, has promoted Ken Jones to president and CEO. Mr. Jones was previously APEL’s chief operating officer. He holds an M.Sc. from the London Business School. APGD has appointed Karen Reeves, M.D., as VP, global head of medical science. Dr. Reeves has more than 16 years of experience in Phase I through IV drug development, including a stint as VP at Pfizer. She earned an M.D. from the University of Vermont College of Medicine. At Astellas Pharma US, Mark Reisenauer has been named VP of sales and marketing, oncology. Mr. Reisenauer most recently served as senior VP and chief commercial officer of Micromet. Mark Weinberg, M.D., has joined APGD as therapeutic area head for CNS and pain. Dr. Weinberg most recently worked for Lundbeck, where he focused on CNS. He received an M.D. from Duke University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Masao Yoshida, former president and CEO of APEL, has been named president and CEO of Astellas Pharma US. Bernhardt Zeiher, M.D., has joined APGD as VP, therapeutic area leader of inflammation, immunology, and infectious diseases. Dr. Zeiher most recently was VP of the inflammation/immunology therapeutic area for Pfizer. He has an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Biotechnology POOL Natasha HERNDAY Dr. Eric SIEVERS Seattle Genetics Appoints VPs Seattle Genetics, a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of monoclonal antibody-based therapies for the treatment of cancer and autoimmune disease, has named Natasha Hernday VP, corporate development. Ms. Hernday was most recently with Amgen, where she served as a senior member of the mergers and acquisitions team. She received an MBA from Pepperdine University. In other moves, Eric Sievers, M.D., has been promoted to VP, clinical affairs, from executive medical director. Dr. Sievers joined Seattle Genetics in 2006. He received an M.D. from Brown University. Dr. Nic SCALFAROTTO Momenta Pharmaceuticals Selects Regulatory Affairs VP Momenta Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company specializing in the characterization and engineering of complex drugs, has named Nic Scalfarotto, DVM, VP of regulatory affairs. Dr. Scalfarotto was most recently a principal at Strategic Regulatory Consulting. He received a DVM from the University of Bologna in Italy. Melissa Kelly Behrs has been named senior VP, strategic portfolio management. Since joining Geron in 1998, Ms. Behrs has served as VP, corporate development and senior VP, therapeutic development, oncology. She received an MBA from Babson College. Stephen Kelsey, M.D., has been appointed executive VP, head of research and development and chief medical officer. Dr. Kelsey joined Geron in 2009 as executive VP and chief medical officer, oncology. He earned an M.D. at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Geron has appointed Jane Lebkowski, Ph.D., senior VP and chief scientific officer. Dr. Lebkowski has been with Geron since 1998 and has served as senior VP and chief scientific officer, cell therapies. She received a Ph.D. from Princeton University. Melanie Nallicheri has joined Geron as senior VP, corporate development, cell therapies. Ms. Nallicheri was most recently a partner at Booz Allen Hamilton. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a master of science in business and economics from the WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar, Germany. Dr. John BONFIGLIO Oragenics Appoints CEO Oragenics, which is focused on oral health and novel antibiotics, has named John Bonfiglio, Ph.D., president and CEO. He was most recently president and CEO of Transdel Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Edward GARMEY Cerulean Appoints Medical Chief Cerulean Pharma, a company focused on designing and developing tumor-targeted nanopharmaceuticals, has named Edward Garmey, M.D., chief medical officer and senior VP. Dr. Garmey was previously VP for clinical development at ArQule. He received an M.D. from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Neil GIBSON Former Pfizer Executive Joins ­Regulus as Scientific Chief Regulus Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company leading the discovery and development of innovative medicines targeting microRNAs, appointed Neil Gibson, Ph.D., as chief scientific officer responsible for leading all company research and development efforts. He most recently was chief scientific officer and oncology therapeutic area head for Pfizer’s oncology research unit. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Aston in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Dr. Douglas KRAFTE Icagen Promotes Scientific Chief Icagen, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of orally administered small molecule drugs that modulate ion channel targets, has promoted Douglas Krafte, Ph.D., to chief scientific officer. He has been with Icagen since 1999 and served as VP of biology and scientific affairs. Glenn MATTES Arno Selects Chief Executive Arno Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing oncology therapeutics, has named Glenn Mattes president and CEO. He recently served as president of Tibotec Therapeutics, a Johnson & Johnson company focused on oncology and virology therapeutics. Paul PERREAULT Dr. Ingolf SIEPER New President at CSL Behring Australian biopharmaceutical company CSL Ltd. has promoted Paul Perreault to president of its U.S.-based plasma protein biotherapeutics business, CSL Behring. Mr. Perreault succeeds Peter Turner, who continues to serve as executive director for CSL Limited in Australia. Ingolf Sieper, M.D., has assumed Mr. Perreault’s previous role of executive VP, commercial operations. He was previously VP and general manager, commercial operations, central Europe. Specialty POOL David MCGOVERN Robert MURPHY Former Pfizer Marketing Executives Join NuPathe NuPathe, a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of branded therapeutics for central nervous system diseases, has added two executives to its marketing team. David McGovern has joined NuPathe as head of marketing. Mr. McGovern was previously senior product director, Alzheimer’s global marketing for Pfizer. Robert J. Murphy has been appointed VP of sales. Mr. Murphy also joins NuPathe from Pfizer, where he most recently served as senior VP, hospital and surgical products. Discovery POOL Ramesha SESHA Protect Pharmaceutical Promotes CEO Protect Pharmaceutical, a publicly held drug discovery and new product development company, has promoted Ramesha Sesha to CEO and chairman. Mr. Sesha has served as chief operating officer of Protect since March 2011, following the company’s patent acquisition agreement with Nectid, where Mr. Sesha was founder and CEO. Emerging POOL Dr. Anthony (Tony) GRINGERI ViaCyte Names Development Chief ViaCyte, a preclinical cell therapy company focused on diabetes, has appointed Anthony “Tony” Gringeri, Ph.D., chief development officer. Dr. Gringeri brings to ViaCyte more than 20 years of experience successfully leading product development and strategic partnering, most recently as chief operating officer for Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics. He received a Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Rochester. Dr. Ed PARSLEY Former Pfizer Clinician Joins Aires Pharmaceuticals Privately held Aires Pharmaceuticals has hired Ed Parsley, D.O., as chief medical officer, responsible for all clinical development activities for Aironite, the company’s lead product for treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Dr. Parsley joins Aires from Pfizer, where he served as the clinical lead for ongoing clinical trials for Revatio, Pfizer’s approved drug to treat PAH. Kathlene POWELL Raptor Appoints Quality VP Raptor Pharmaceutical has named Kathlene L. Powell to the newly created position of VP, quality operations. Ms. Powell is responsible for overseeing quality assurance and quality control for Raptor, as well as leading chemistry and manufacturing controls-related issues and activities. Before joining Raptor, Ms. Powell was VP, quality for Pacific BioDevelopment. She received an M.S. in biochemistry from the University of Missouri. Agency POOL David BASHAW MSLGroup Adds to New York Healthcare Practice MSLGroup, Publicis Groupe’s specialty communications, public relations, and experiential network, has appointed David Bashaw senior VP, deputy healthcare practice director, MSL New York. Mr. Bashaw is working with MSLGroup’s healthcare leadership team to manage the healthcare portfolio of the New York office, as well as oversee day-to-day operations and drive business development. He was most recently a senior VP at Ogilvy Public Relations. Bob BLOUNT Ann HEMINGWAY Ogilvy PR Adds VPs Integrated global communications firm Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide (Ogilvy PR), a WPP company, has added two VPs focused on its healthcare operations. Bob Blount has been named senior VP to Ogilvy PR’s 360-Degree Digital Influence group, with a focus on healthcare and technology clients. Mr. Blount was formerly director, social analytics and insights at WCG. Ann Hemingway joins Ogilvy PR as senior VP to the New York healthcare team. Ms. Hemingway was previously an executive VP and director of account management excellence at Euro RSCG Worldwide PR. Liz Bryan and Lauren Fulk were each promoted to senior account supervisor after more than five years with the company. Pamela Lippincott has rejoined Spectrum as VP of strategy development, overseeing the creation and execution of major educational campaigns, product launches and branding initiatives, and strategic scientific communications. She previously served as healthcare media director at Zeno Group. Spectrum also has promoted Megan Lustig to senior account supervisor. Andrea Clerk has been named senior account executive. Ms. Clerk was account director for Discovery Chicago and Associates. She received an MBA in marketing/health services management from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Bethany Hood joins Purohit Navigation as an account supervisor. Ms. Hood has almost a decade of pharma agency experience, during which she has demonstrated success in launching and managing an array of big brands for major companies like Amgen, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Abbott Laboratories. Pam Ring has been appointed director, account services. Ms. Ring’s background and experience spans healthcare field sales, product management, advertising agency, and medical education. She received an MBA from Loyola University Chicago. Nancy FITZSIMMONS WCG Bolsters Healthcare ­Leadership WCG has named Nancy Fitzsimmons managing director, healthcare, working out of the agency’s New York office. Ms. Fitzsimmons most recently served as senior director, corporate initiatives for AstraZeneca. WCG is an independent firm partnering with clients in the healthcare, consumer products, and technology industries to deliver integrated creative and interactive communications strategies and programs. Becky Wasserman GILLIGAN AbelsonTaylor Promotes Senior ­Account Supervisor Independent healthcare advertising agency AbelsonTaylor has promoted Becky Wasserman Gilligan to senior account supervisor, from account supervisor. Ms. Gilligan, who joined AbelsonTaylor in 2005, is responsible for managing the promotional strategies for a biologic molecule in a specialty market. Susan HAYES New Global Health Director at Porter Novelli Global public relations firm Porter Novelli has appointed Susan Hayes global director of health, succeeding Barbara DeBuono, M.D., MPH, who left the agency to head a New York-based nonprofit group. In addition to her global role, Ms. Hayes will lead the healthcare practice of Porter Novelli’s New York office. She previously served as a partner in the New York office managing the agency’s Novartis business. Scott HIBBARD Kristin PATTON Vogel Farina Strengthens Account Services Side Vogel Farina, a strategic marketing and communications company with expertise in specialty prescription markets, has named Scott Hibbard account group supervisor. Julia PHELAN Jennifer SIGAUD HealthEd Solidifies Account ­Services Leadership HealthEd, a specialized agency focused on turning health education into positive outcomes, has announced the promotions of Julia Phelan and Jennifer Sigaud to senior VP, group account director. Ms. Phelan joined HealthEd in 2009 and brought her leadership skills to the hypertension and neuroscience business. Ms. Sigaud has been with HealthEd since July 2010 and has focused on the agency’s oncology business, and leading her teams in developing patient on-boarding programs for the treatment of various cancers. Mr. Trezza was most recently senior director and head of U.S. managed markets and market access strategy, operations, and analytics at Novartis. Kym WHITE Edelman Names Health Vice Chair Global independent public relations firm Edelman has appointed Kym White vice chair, health, working from the agency’s Chicago and New York offices. Ms. White is working closely with Edelman’s health leadership team and is initially focusing on counsel and relationship development with global clients headquartered in the United States. Ms. White was most recently VP, global corporate communications for Baxter International. Dr. Doug YOUNG Publicis Touchpoint Solutions Hires Clinical Solutions VP Publicis Touchpoint Solutions, a provider of multichannel message delivery solutions, has named Doug Young, Ph.D., VP of its Touchpoint Clinical Solutions center-of-excellence. Touchpoint Clinical Solutions specializes in clinical health educator programs, medical science liaison teams, and integrated adherence and retention solutions. Dr. Young joins Publicis Touchpoint Solutions after 16 years with Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he most recently served as VP of global medical affairs and the leader of the global field medical center-of-excellence. He received a Ph.D. from the Department of Pharmacology at Washington University in St. Louis, and completed his postdoctoral training in the university’s Department of Medicine. As director in Huron’s life-sciences practice, Barbara Godlew focuses on clinical research management and disclosure for life-sciences, academic medical center, and healthcare clients. Before joining Huron, Ms. Godlew was president and founder of The Faire Company. Mark Linver has been named managing director in Huron’s life-sciences practice. Mr. Linver focuses on helping clients with government price reporting, as well as transparency and disclosure requirements of life-sciences companies. He was previously a senior principal at IMS Health. Dr. Harry GREENSPUN Deloitte Adds to Health Services ­Research Practice Harry Greenspun, M.D., has joined the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, the health services research arm of consulting firm Deloitte LLP. Dr. Greenspun is focusing on helping Deloitte’s health sciences and government clients address key health information technology and clinical transformation issues and leading Deloitte’s research agenda on these topics. Dr. Greenspun was previously executive VP and chief medical officer for Dell and is the co-author of Reengineering Health Care: A Manifesto for Radically Rethinking Health Care Delivery. A former practicing cardiac anesthesiologist, Dr. Greenspun received an M.D. from the University of Maryland. Dr. Paul WALLACE The Lewin Group Appoints ­Comparative Effectiveness Director Comparative effectiveness research expert Paul Wallace, M.D., has joined The Lewin Group as senior VP and director of Lewin’s Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER). A board-certified physician in internal medicine and hematology, Dr. Wallace most recently was medical director for health and productivity management programs at Kaiser Permanente’s national Permanente Federation. Mr. Dyer joins Novella from Quintiles, where he served as VP, drug development partnerships. Dr. Ronald KERSHNER Premier Research Strengthens ­Biostatistics Expertise Premier Research Group has appointed Ronald Kershner, Ph.D., VP, biostatistics and data operations for North America. Dr. Kershner has more than 25 years of experience in all operational aspects of clinical trial planning, execution, and delivery, most recently with Novella Clinical. He holds a Ph.D. in statistics from Cornell University. Ms. Palumbo has more than two decades of experience in the development and implementation of quality assurance programs in the FDA-regulated drug and medical device industries. She received an M.S. from the University of Akron and an M.Phil. from Avinashilingam University in Coimbatore, India. Beardsworth also has promoted Evette Riegel, R.N., to senior director, clinical operations and project management, leading the company’s expanded focus in oncology clinical operations and execution of all clinical programs. Ms. Riegel joined Beardsworth in 2006 as a senior project manager and became director, clinical operations in 2008. Dr. Robert SHEPARD Kendle Adds Oncology Director Robert Shepard, M.D., has joined full-service global CRO Kendle as executive director, oncology, medical affairs. With more than four decades of oncology research experience, Dr. Shepard oversees Kendle’s development of oncology programs for customers worldwide. He earned his medical degree from Duke University in the medical scientist-training program, which included two years of graduate training in immunology. Steven COLLIS AmerisourceBergen Announces Leadership Change AmerisourceBergen has named Steven Collis to succeed retiring CEO R. David Yost. Mr. Collis has been with AmerisourceBergen for 17 years, most recently as president and chief operating officer responsible for all AmerisourceBergen business units, including AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation (ABDC), AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group (ABSG), AmerisourceBergen Consulting Services (ABCS), and AmerisourceBergen Packaging Group (ABPG). Animesh GANDHI ALSCG Strengthens Aggregate Spend Expertise Management and technology consultancy Alliance Life Sciences Consulting Group (ALSCG) has named Animesh Gandhi a director on aggregate spend. He joins the company Jan. 1, 2012. Mr. Gandhi specializes in developing and deploying business solutions across multiple domains including sales force effectiveness analytics and automation, master data management, aggregate spend and PDMA compliance regulations, and data warehousing. Jenny Hepburn has been named strategic consultant. Ms. Hepburn was most recently with 7.4 Marketing. She is based at InterPhase’s Macclesfield, United Kingdom, location. Tim Mustill has been appointed VP, strategic services. Mr. Mustill has held a number of senior commercial positions in the consultancy and communications arena. Peter Lassoff, Pharm.D., has joined the Quintiles European consulting team as practice leader for the European Union pharmaceutical regulatory and quality practice. Dr. Lassoff comes to Quintiles following 12 years at Parexel, where he was most recently VP of consulting in Europe. He earned a Pharm.D. from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. Quintiles has appointed Frederic “Rick” Sax, M.D., senior VP and global head of its Integrated Clinical Services division. Dr. Sax is responsible for the business lines that comprise Integrated Clinical Services. Dr. Sax most recently was VP of clinical design strategies for AstraZeneca. He received an M.D. from Columbia University. On the European consulting side, Ines Weizenegger has been named a senior consultant for the European Union commercial effectiveness practice. Ms. Weizenegger joins Quintiles from Executive Insight. She received a master’s degree from the University of Bern in Switzerland. Olaf Zorzi, Ph.D., brings more than 12 years of consulting experience to his role on the European consulting team. Previously Dr. Zorzi was with Deloitte. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology and economics from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Michael LYTTON Former Biogen Idec VP Joins Patheon Executive Suite Patheon, a provider of contract development and manufacturing services, has named Michael Lytton executive VP, corporate development and strategy and general counsel. Mr. Lytton was most recently executive VP, corporate and business development for Biogen Idec. He holds an M.S. in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine at the University of London, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Mr. Shawah is leading the company’s efforts in closed loop marketing (CLM), e-detailing, alternative sampling, customer portals, and call centers.
