ACRP 2009 Global Conference & Exhibition — Denver, April 24-28 A record crowd of about 3,000 attended the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) 2009 Global Conference & Exhibition in Denver in April. Held in conjunction with the Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians and Investigators (APPI) Program for the fourth straight year, the event’s theme was Human Subjects and the Clinical Research Partnership. Join us in 2010 in Tampa,April 2327. 11 1. Ron Reed,Pharm.D. (Abbott Laboratories), chair of the ACRP 2009 Global Conference Planning Committee,enjoys a networking event with the 2010 Committee Chair Donna Edgerton,BSN, RN, CCRC, (Millennium Pharmaceuticals) left, and 2009 committee member Lynn Van Dermark, RN, MBA, CCRA, RAC (MedTrials, Inc.). 2. ReSearch Pharmaceutical Services, Inc (RPS), the conference’s Diamond Sponsor,kept visitors to the Exhibit Hall happy with an assortment of stuffed toys. 3.Thomas P. Stossel, M.D.,of Harvard Medical School,delivered the Louis M.Sherwood Memorial Lecture on“Money in Medicine:Sin or Salvation?” 4.A special reception washeld for conference attendees whoobserved the 10th anniversary of their continuous certification through ACRPwithin the past year. 5.The exhibit hall at the Colorado Convention Center featured more than 200exhibitors. 6.Jonathan B.Perlin,M.D.,Ph.D.,MSHA,FACP,President of Hospital Corporation of America Inc., delivers a keynote presentation on “Healthcare 2019:Health,Technology,Value,and the Opportunity for a Learning Health System.” 7. Following her riveting keynote presenta tion on “Ethics in Medicine and Research:Lessons from Dr.Mengele,”Auschwitz survivor,Eva Mozes Kor held a book signing event that drew a long line of admirers. 8.DavidVulcano,LCSW,MBA, CIP, RAC,chair of the ACRP Board of Trustees, right,meets with closing keynote speaker Bert A.Spilker,Ph.D.,M.D.,FCP,FFPM,an independent consultant,author,and educator,who presented on “Avoiding Pitfalls and Failure in Product Development.” 9. Clinlogix and PharmaVOICE teamed up to host a Wii Ski contest that tested attendees’ downhill prowess. 10. Charles M. Alexander, M.D., FACP,FACE,president and chairman of APPI,presents a Lifetime Achievement Award to Ronald E. Keeney,M.D.,FAAP,FFPM/RCP,CPI,who was the founding president (19931996) of APPI’s predecessor organization, the American Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians. 11.Greg Koski,M.D.,Ph.D.,CPI (Hon), immediate past president of APPI,moderates a joint APPI/PRIM&R session with panelists (lr): Debra Lappin, J.D., of B&D Consulting, Norman Fost, M.D., MPH, of University of WisconsinMadison, and Nancy Dubler, LLB, of MontefioreEinstein Center for Bioethics. 12.Attendees packed the annual ACRP Gala.
