Pharmaceutical POOL Dr. Janet HAMMOND Roche Strengthens Translational Medicine Leadership Roche has appointed Janet Hammond, M.D., Ph.D., VP, translational medicine – virology in pharmaceutical research and early development (pRED). Dr. Hammond joins Roche from Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, where she served as chief medical officer and senior VP of global medical affairs. She received an M.D. and a Ph.D. from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, as well as an ScM in clinical investigation from Johns Hopkins University. Trevor SMITH Takeda Subsidiary Names CEO Japan’s Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. has promoted Trevor Smith to CEO of Takeda Pharmaceuticals Europe Ltd. (TPEU), Takeda’s London-based subsidiary for oversight of pan-European sales and marketing. Mr. Smith, who previously served as Takeda’s VP, international strategy, has more than 30 years of pharmaceutical experience. He succeeds retiring TPEU CEO Erich Brunn, Ph.D. Biotechnology POOL Dr. Jonathan LEFF KaloBios Names Medical Chief KaloBios Pharmaceuticals has appointed Jonathan Leff, M.D., chief medical officer. Dr. Leff previously served as VP and chief medical officer of Halozyme Therapeutics. He received an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. KaloBios is a private company developing a portfolio of patient-targeted monoclonal antibodies designed to treat difficult-to-treat diseases. Biopharmaceutical POOL Dr. Jay BARTH Dr. Robert SPIEGEL PTC Therapeutics Announces ­Executive Changes PTC Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of orally administered small-molecule drugs, has strengthened its executive team in anticipation of moving its lead compound, ataluren, toward regulatory filings. PTC has promoted Jay Barth, M.D., to VP of clinical development, responsible for leading all clinical development programs for ataluren. Dr. Barth received an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Robert Spiegel, M.D., has joined PTC as chief medical officer, from the same role at Schering-Plough. Dr. Spiegel received an M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Joshua HAMERMESH Infinity Pharmaceuticals Names Business Development VP Infinity Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company seeking to discover, develop, and deliver medicines for difficult-to-treat diseases, has named Joshua Hamermesh VP, business and corporate development. Mr. Hamermesh most recently served as senior VP, strategy and corporate development, for Pervasis Therapeutic. He received an MBA from Harvard Business School. Dr. Pablo LAPUERTA Lexicon Taps Former Bristol-Myers Squibb Executive as Medical Chief Lexicon Pharmaceuticals has appointed Pablo Lapuerta, M.D., chief medical officer, responsible for directing clinical development of the biopharmaceutical company’s drug candidates from Phase II proof-of-concept through Phase III and approval. Dr. Lapuerta has 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in a variety of leadership roles. He most recently served as VP at Bristol-Myers Squibb responsible for global development of an Alzheimer’s disease drug candidate. Dr. Lapuerta has an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. Diagnostic POOL John KRAYACICH Exact Sciences Announces ­Marketing VP Exact Sciences, a molecular diagnostics company focused on the early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer, has appointed John Krayacich senior VP, sales and marketing. Mr. Krayacich brings to Exact more than 20 years of leadership experience and was most recently president and CEO of two start-up biotechnology companies, Ambrose Pharmaceuticals and Marinus Pharmaceuticals. He received a master’s degree and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. Robert YATES Roche Diagnostics Promotes ­Applied Science Head Roche Diagnostics has promoted Robert Yates to head of Roche Applied Science, from global head of business development and licensing. Mr. Yates succeeds Manfred Baier, who is retiring. Amber EDWARDS Draftfcb Adds VP Amber Edwards has joined Draftfcb Healthcare as executive VP, group management director, leading the agency’s direct-to-consumer healthcare accounts, including Novartis, Merck, Lilly, and Amgen. Ms. Edwards brings more than 14 years of experience in health and pharmaceutical markets, most recently overseeing DTC, CRM, and digital channels for two brands with J Walter Thompson. Melissa CLARK Dr. Emily WALSH Halloran Expands Consulting Team Halloran Consulting Group has made two staff additions as part of an ongoing effort to substantially increase Halloran’s alliance management, translational program management, and regulatory strategy offerings. Melissa Clark has joined Halloran as a senior consultant. Ms. Clark previously led the corporate regulatory affairs department at Boston Scientific. She holds an M.S. in human nutrition from the University of Bridgeport. Emily Walsh, Ph.D., has been named a principal consultant. Dr. Walsh has broad expertise in managing drug discovery and clinical programs across a breadth of indications, most recently as CEO and founder of Tremont Therapeutics. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of California, San Francisco. Alex CONTRERAS Sanjay JOSHI Bill SUDLOW Ashish VAZIRANI New Principals at ZS Associates Global management consulting firm ZS Associates has hired four principals to provide expertise and leadership in areas targeted for firm-wide growth and expansion of key client services. Alex Contreras has been named principal and member of the leadership team in ZS Associates’ business technology group, based in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Mr. Contreras was previously a director with the technology risk practice at Deloitte. He holds a master’s degree in accounting and information systems from Arizona State University. ZS Associates has appointed Sanjay Joshi managing principal of its global operations practice, based in the company’s New York office. Mr. Joshi is a 20-year veteran in management consulting and business and technology outsourcing consulting, most recently serving as chief executive of Wipro Consulting and vice chairman of Wipro’s business process outsourcing division. He received an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a master’s degree in computer science from Pennsylvania State University. Bill Sudlow has joined ZS Associates as chief technology officer and principal in charge of the firm’s software development group. Mr. Sudlow is based at the company’s global headquarters in Evanston, Ill. Mr. Sudlow’s 25 years of software product development and management experience include stints as VP of product development at independent software vendors Intuit and Xactly, as well as numerous management positions at Hewlett-Packard. He received an MBA in marketing from Santa Clara University and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. Ashish Vazirani has been named principal and leader of ZS Associates’ high-tech practice, based in the San Mateo, Calif., office. Mr. Vazirani was most recently a senior VP with MarketBridge. He earned a double master’s degree in management and engineering from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and McCormick School of Engineering. Service POOL Dr. Kenneth CARTER Noble Life Sciences Appoints CEO Noble Life Sciences, a provider of preclinical research services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, has named Kenneth Carter, Ph.D., president and CEO. Dr. Carter was previously a consultant to the life-sciences industry and served on an interim basis as Noble’s president. Mark DEGATANO ImpactRx Selects Merck Veteran as Client Services VP Pharmaceutical market research company ImpactRx has named Mark Degatano senior VP, client services operations, leading the advanced analytics, custom market research, and syndicated analytic support teams. Mr. Degatano joins ImpactRx after 24 years at Merck, where he was most recently VP, U.S. human health customer insights. He received an M.A. in statistics from Boston University. Howard DRAZNER ESSRx Names President ESSRX has appointed Howard Drazner president, succeeding Doug Mack, who remains CEO. Mr. Drazner was previously senior VP at PDI and president of PDI’s Pharmakon division. ESSRx is the parent company of satellite broadcast services provider Advantage Broadcast Solutions; AV Solutions, a provider of audio-visual equipment rentals to pharmaceutical companies; and Total Health Rewards. Dawn DUGGAN A10 Clinical Solutions Appoints Strategic Director Dawn Duggan has joined A10 Clinical Solutions as director of strategic clinical solutions, responsible for strategically growing A10’s presence within the northeastern U.S. pharmaceutical and biotechnology hub. Ms. Duggan also plays an integral role in A10’s involvement with Diversity Alliance for Science (DA4S), a nonprofit organization co-founded by A10 President and CEO Leah Brown. Ms. Duggan was most recently an operations manager at Integrated Resources. A10 Clinical Solutions specializes in clinical research and on-site preventive care health clinics for large pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, hospital systems, and corporate entities. Jack EDLER Exco InTouch to Expand U.S. Operations Exco InTouch, a provider of patient communication solutions for the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, has appointed Jack Edler senior director of business development. Mr. Edler’s appointment is in conjunction with the move of Exco’s U.S. operational headquarters to Cary, N.C., to enable the continued expansion of the company alongside the improvement of its client hosting facilities. Mr. Edler brings to Exco more than 20 years of experience, most recently as senior director, business development at Perceptive Informatics. Dr. David FRYBURG John TAGLIAMONTE Selventa Strengthens Leadership Team Selventa, a provider of scientific consulting services, licensed software products, and strategic partnerships to life-sciences companies, has added two executives to its leadership roster. David Fryburg, M.D., has joined Selventa as chief medical officer, responsible for contributing to the company’s scientific strategy, particularly through his expertise in translational medicine and biomarker development. Dr. Fryburg was most recently Pfizer’s executive director and global translational medicine lead for cardiovascular, metabolic, and endocrine diseases. He received an M.D. from Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. John Tagliamonte has been appointed senior VP of corporate development, with responsibility for promoting and establishing strategic partnerships with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology. Mr. Tagliamonte was previously VP, business development for Anchor Therapeutics. He received an MBA from Boston College. Shaliya KHAN Jac LEE Dave PHILLIPS Ed SLEEPER ClearPoint Makes Additions, Promotions ClearPoint, a global provider of interactive health education services to the life-sciences industry, has unveiled a number of staff changes. Shaliya Khan has been promoted to senior manager, global marketing and sales, from her earlier business development role. Ms. Khan is spearheading the company’s marketing, branding and thought-leadership initiatives and is based in ClearPoint’s India office. Jac Lee has joined ClearPoint’s U.K. office as U.K. business development director to expand the company’s presence in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) market. Mr. Lee has worked in medical communications for more than 15 years and has been associated with leading companies across the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States. Dave Phillips has been named director of technology. Before joining ClearPoint, Mr. Phillips led the worldwide support organization at OutStart. Ed Sleeper has been appointed director of compliance for ClearPoint. Mr. Sleeper’s previous experience includes stints as director of CME operations for Medscape and director of operations for Axiom Professional Health Learning. Technology POOL Jim BAKER Cytel Hires Clinical Research VP Cytel, a provider of clinical trial design and implementation services and software, has named Jim Baker VP, clinical research services. Mr. Baker has almost three decades of experience in biopharmaceutical development, most recently as senior director of study standards implementation at Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company. Dr. Jeffrey LITWIN ERT Selects Chief Executive ERT, a global technology-driven provider of clinical services and customizable medical devices to biopharmaceutical and healthcare organizations, has promoted Jeffrey Litwin, M.D., to president and CEO. Joel Morganroth, M.D., who had served as interim president and CEO, continues as chief scientific officer. Dr. Litwin joined ERT in 2000 as senior VP and chief medical officer and has served as executive VP and chief medical officer since late 2005. A board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Litwin also serves on the DIA Annual Meeting planning committee and the board of directors of the Metrics Champion Consortium.
